Bless the Lord, Christian Author!
Welcome to another Empowering Post, where I teach you powerful lessons that will help you thrive as a new Christian Writerpreneur.
For today's lesson, we will continue in this series on developing effective productivity strategies that will enable you to reach your goals.
I've shared several other lessons related to this topic over here, and I encourage you to take a look at them in your spare time.
They will truly empower you.
Now, for this article, I want to give you my behind-the-scenes look at how I put these productivity lessons to work within my own writing ministry.
There are many branches within my work, and because I have much to manage, it's important that I build a system that keeps me moving forward.
I share more in-depth discussions about my operation system with my students in the Empowered Writerpreneurs Program.
So, I'd like to give you a snippet of it today, giving you just a few examples of how you can apply these same techniques to your own work.
More specifically, today's lesson will show you:
Now, grab your note pad and pen. Let's spend some time together on this topic, and get ready to be empowered!
My Ministry Is Vast, So Here's How I Reach My Goals
Let me begin this teaching by describing to you my vision and mission for my virtual ministry.
In the late part of 2016, the Holy Spirit began dealing with me regarding the work that I was to accomplish as my life's mission.
Its main focus centered on revival, reformation, and relationship with the Holy Spirit.
From those core values emerged different areas in which I could
And from these more defined values, I created different offerings that provided the practical steps one needed to thrive.
Thus, I have a school for Christian Authors, because God's writers are fundamental to this revival.
I have a women's ministry that will launch in 2019. It's a 12-month training program that teaches prophetic female writers how to build their virtual and geographical ministry the RIGHT way.
I have a virtual bible ministry called Reformation America, where I bring guests on my LIVE broadcast to discuss politics, morality, and the coming revival.
And above all of these ministries, I am building my family.
Now, given all that I have to manage, I've had to learn to systematize the daily tasks so that everything runs smoothly.
I don't have a large team to assist me right now, so the easier I make my job, the more efficient I will be.
And the best way for me to accomplish this while meeting my goals is to create a schedule and a routine that will help me balance all the work.
And here's what that looks like:
1.) Everyday, I construct a new blog post for either one of my blogs/websites
I manage four websites, although Felecia Killings and LiyahAmore Publishing are my primary ones.
As you may know, or will come to learn deeply once you are enrolled in the online school, blogging is your most powerful method for promoting your writing ministry online.
Blogging helps to establish credibility and authority in a crowded space.
And when you have written dynamic content that empowers, entertains, equips, and educates your audience, then it becomes easier for you to sell your products and services at the prices that you set.
For me and my students, blogging is intentional.
We aren't doing it because we always feel like it.
It's something that must be done so that we are helping our ministry to reach our goals.
So, for my ministry, blogging is what I accomplish each day. And constructing these posts in the morning time works best for me.
My blog posts may also include an episode of EWP-TV, which is my broadcast that I archive on my YouTube channel.
Again, the purpose of adding this element to my ministry is to demonstrate my expertise, empower my audience, and reach my goals.
2.) Every Monday-Friday, I share my new or old blog posts with my mailing list, which serves as FREE lessons to the members.
These lessons are snippets of my online school, and they help me to show my members the many benefits they will receive once they enroll.
From a business perspective--and you will need to implement a similar strategy for your own ministry--e-mail marketing is one of the most effective methods for building relationships AND selling your products.
If you don't have an e-mail system set up for your ministry, then you are missing out.
In fact, it's one of the requirements that I have my students complete, because this form of marketing is so crucial to their growth.
Now, quite often, the challenge with any business or entrepreneur is discovering what kind of content to send to their list.
And for several months, I struggled with this as well.
The way I discovered the solutions was by asking myself the following questions:
Based on those questions, I came up with the strategy to deliver FREE training lessons based on specific topics or categories that related to Christian Writerpreneurship.
I knew I wanted to get these lessons to my list each week, but I didn't want to send only one e-mail per week.
I needed to be a little more aggressive, especially because as a business, I'm competing with other e-mail marketers.
So, I decided to create my monthly mini e-course series, which has really helped me to connect with my audience.
Now, not only can I communicate with my members each weekday, but I am giving them what they want and need from me.
And best of all, when the lessons relate to my audience's specific pain points, then they have no problem receiving these FREE teachings 5xs per week.
Now, in case you're thinking that communicating with your e-mail audience each day is too much, I want you to know that I felt the same way.
So, I made this simple by creating a template to use for each month, and I copied and pasted much of the lesson's content for each day from my blog post into the e-mail body.
Now, it simply takes me 5 minutes to compose a daily e-mail because everything has already been set up.
And because my lessons are evergreen (meaning they are useful years from now), then I can re-share these same lessons year after year.
3.) I take to social media everyday, whether it is LIVE or by using a scheduling tool.
Social media is just one of those conglomerates that you cannot ignore as a new Christian Author.
And for me, the best strategy has been to focus on a few social sites that I will use to build more relationships with people.
I use Facebook primarily, because...well...it's Facebook!
But I also use Pinterest and LinkedIn. And over the years, I will maximize on these platforms, because their potential today is ASTOUNDING! (You MUST utilize these platforms, too.)
Now, with Facebook, I do all my posting LIVE. In other words, I don't use a scheduling tool for it.
And I generally share/publish about 15-20 posts a day on my page.
For the record, about 85% of my posts are curated articles from various conservative sites. I don't simply share my own materials, because that would be boring.
Instead, I incorporate my articles that relate to politics, morality, etc. into my list of conservative sites.
And my audience and I engage in online discussions related to the topics, even the ones that I publish from my main website.
Now, because I spend more LIVE time on Facebook, this leaves little time for the other platforms.
To compensate for this, I use a scheduling tool called MeetEdgar to help me manage my content there.
Using a social media scheduling tool is what I would encourage you to do, too.
It's a great way to share your content with your audience without feeling overwhelmed by social media.
And it's one of the reasons that I continue to make this part of my ministry's annual budget.
4.) I pay for paid promotions on social media.
There are times when I want a certain post or a certain offering to appear before a specific audience.
And the most effective and cost-efficient way to accomplish this is by paying for paid promotions on social media.
I set aside a monthly budget for this; but I never pay for an ad unless I have a strategy in place that will make that ad profitable for me.
I primarily use Pinterest and Facebook to accomplish this.
But you can pay for ads in other places such as Google, Instagram, LinkedIn, and more.
(If you want to learn more about making paid ads work for your writing ministry, I teach the technical aspects of how to master paid ads in the Empowered Writerpreneurs Program. It's a lot more complicated than people realize.)
5.) I manage to embed any of my clients' work into my week.
Now, this task is something that will come to an end in 2018.
Since 2011, I have provided my editorial and writing services to new Christian Authors, but I decided that 2018 would be my last year with this, because I am moving now into a different phase of my ministry.
But when I am hired by a client to complete some work, I fit it within my daily schedule, but not until I have completed the work that I listed above for my own writing ministry.
6.) Every Friday, I host my LIVE broadcast called Reformation America.
This is where I conduct my LIVE virtual bible study with my audience on Facebook, and this generally lasts for 30-minutes.
7.) Beginning 2019, I will host my monthly women's ministry in Elk Grove.
My teachings pull from the many lessons that I provide all throughout my ministry, including the writing aspects.
But instead of everything happening online, I will host my events locally each month.
Each Task Helps Me to Reach My Goals
As a student inside the Empowered Writerpreneurs Program, I will stress to you the importance of setting clear goals for your writing ministry.
And one of those goals focuses on what you want to earn financially from your work.
When you set a financial goal for yourself, this helps you to determine how much work you need to put into your ministry.
For example, if your financial goal is to earn $500/month through your ministry, then based on that goal, you can determine what you will do and sell to help you earn that income.
For me, my goal is to make my ministry a multi-million dollar one, and I have reasons for that.
One, I am looking to build a legacy for my daughter and future children (and their children).
I don't believe in teaching my daughter to wait around for someone to give her a job.
I want her to learn the principles of generating wealth for herself so that she never needs to depend on anyone except the Lord.
Secondly, I am a HUGE giver.
Over the years, I've demonstrated to people that I have a heart to give.
But one of the areas that I'm most discontented with is the fact that some ministries suffer because not enough people give to them.
It's always interesting to me that some churches just naturally generate millions of dollars each year and thrive; yet others can barely raise enough money to create a youth ministry for their church.
I don't like that.
So, instead of complaining, I told the Lord that if He gave me the power to generate massive wealth, then the bulk of our earnings will go towards struggling ministries.
Again, building wealth--which is not a sin, by the way--is intentional for me.
Therefore, everything that I create right now has to move me in that direction.
And that's why I have different branches within my ministry, each one working towards the overall vision and mission that the Holy Spirit gave me.
So, in other words, I blog to help me market; I market to help me sell; I sell to help me earn; I earn to help me grow; I grow and eventually scale; and as I scale, I then give and empower.
This is my system, and it works for me.
How Your System Can Make You More Productive
For every successful entrepreneur that you run into, you will find someone who has created a master system that works for her.
So, I want to encourage you to do the same thing.
It's so important that you learn to adopt various strategies that will help you remain focused on your goals.
And in doing so, you will witness just how each task works to make you most productive in your writing ministry.
Now, I don't want you to feel like there is only one type of system that works for everyone.
In fact, each ministry will be different.
You have to create a system of operations that is best for you and your given lifestyle.
If you struggle in this area, and we all have, then I encourage you to make the decision to connect with me and other students in the Empowered Writerpreneurs Program.
My online school will give you everything that you need to build a writing ministry that will last a lifetime.
It will help you craft an operation system that will work for you based on all the strategies that you develop to cultivate your ministry.
No matter how small or vast your vision is, I will help you see how each part will work together.
I will help you see how the puzzle pieces fit, and how you can work consistently each day to reach your goals.
There is a lot of work that goes into building your virtual ministry, but if you fail to receive the proper training for it, then you will fail.
It's a guarantee.
So, make the choice today to be a part of the only online school for Christian Authors like you.
It will change your life, just as it did for me and for my students.
