I pray this post finds you well.
Today, I want to share with you a new way of thinking about your social media strategy. This is something that I recently implemented into my business plan, and have seen some wonderful results come from it. As we all know, social media has revolutionized the way we share our products, services, and businesses with others. It has provided a free platform for us to share what we write with others and with those who will eventually become our clients or customers. But while it has given us this wide opportunity, it has also presented new challenges.
Ask any progressing business person and author, and they will tell you that maintaining their social media presence is incredibly time-consuming. You can spend hours trying to use social media for promotional purposes, which can prevent you from completing more important work such as creating books and building a library of content. To solve this problem, developers have created software programs that help writers, authors, and bloggers schedule or automate their posts. Programs like Buffer.com and MeetEdgar.com are phenomenal tools that I highly recommend to assist you in organizing your social media content. You can input and create your social posts in their software, and they will automatically share it with your profiles at the times you select. But while these resources are power-packed, you still have to commit so much time to perfecting even that routine. Not only that, but automation takes away from the sole purpose of social media, which is to be social and live with it. In other words, people don't necessarily want to engage with a software-automated post because it's like talking to a computer. They want to engage with you directly. And again, this can be challenging when you are building your writerpreneurship and business.
So, what is one to do when even automation seems to not work?
I asked myself this question as I began redesigning my website and constructing a few new projects through LiyahAmorePublishing.com. In addition to working with private clients, I also had in my heart to create a lifestyle magazine, a writer’s network, and an educational program, each needing to be shared through our social media platforms; and I found myself feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. I knew that I could use the tools for scheduling posts and getting that organized; but I still felt as though I did not have control over the amount of work needed to keep the company and its projects moving smoothly. So, I decided to adjust my social media strategy in a way that not many, if any, are talking about. Instead of having the company on all the major social platforms, I performed the following.
This is just a snippet of what I implemented into my social media strategy. But it's enough to get you thinking about how you can effectively share your brand, your authorship, and your story with others. Think about where you want to be seen and how you want people to interact with you. Do you want more visual representations? Are you more keen to producing professional, educational articles? What is it that you provide? Once you have determined this and other factors, you can then revamp your strategy to fit your goals. I guarantee you will see results.
Now that I have a better strategy for social media, it is easier for me to execute my plans for the company and generate the audience that would be perfect for each project. I’m not worried about sharing everything on each of our platforms. I’ve narrowed everything down, not just for my sanity, but so our audience would have a clear understanding of what they can expect to receive from the company. When people on Instagram see AmoreSpeaks, they won’t question why they are also seeing editing ads or writing ads for Christian authors. They know exactly what to expect, and will be more willing to follow and subscribe to the magazine because of this.
As it pertains to you and your writerpreneurship, consider firstly that you don’t need to be on every social media platform. Choose two or three that will fit your brand, and then create a strategy for each one. Even if you try three sites, and you find that one works more effectively than the other, then cut off the dead branches. Focus your energy and attention on the place that works for you. If you are like me and have multiple projects under your belt, then consider which platforms are best for each one. The idea is to be as strategic as possible so that you see a higher ROI, not simply on your financial investment but more importantly on your time investment.
If you follow me on Pinterest and Instagram, you will notice that my strategy, which I only begun less than 10 days ago from this post, has increased. With Pinterest, I completely purged my following, dropping me down to about 70 followers. I cut out the number of people I followed, leaving me about 18 right now. And after implementing the Pinterest strategy over 7 days, I increased to 106 followers. In terms of Instagram, AmoreSpeaks has reached Top Posts in different hubs like #ChristianAuthors on several occasions. I've had people with followers in the tens of thousands find my posts, comment on them, and like them. I've had a few Christian "celebrities" (I hate the fact that I even used that term, but you know what I mean) like the posts. And I will show you the images to prove this in the Author's Insta-Course. When I first created the account, I had under 100 followers, who were mostly friends from Facebook. But because I wanted to specifically target female writerpreneurs, I removed followers from my list. Since implementing my strategy, and after about 8 days, this account has over 180 followers. Instagram has also helped in generating my e-mail list for AmoreSpeaks, and by our launch on September 1, we will have 40 subscribers...and we started with zero! So, the increase is there. I can only imagine what the results will be two years from now.
