I pray that you are doing well, and that this day brings you much gain and prosperity. For this post, I want to share with you some strategies that will help you maximize your potential as a successful author. As I have mentioned and will continue to mention, thriving as a writerpreneur requires that you do more than the average writer. You have to see yourself as a creator of multiple ventures that allow you to gain wealth from various streams (multiple streams of income). And one of the best ways to accomplish this is by creating content courses that you use to bring in finances while also helping others.
There are so many options for writers today. And as I’ve shared in previous articles, it’s important that as a writer, you strive earnestly to consider multiple ways to generate wealth as a writerpreneur. In this lesson, I want to show you how you can maximize your book’s financial potential by doing unconventional things such as selling courses. Remember that very few authors, and I mean very, very few, make a substantial living from selling books exclusively. This is not to discourage anyone, but to express the reality of what the independent publishing industry entails. Therefore, if you wish to make your mark using the gift of writing, you must be opened to other methods of generating an income. For today’s lesson, I want to give you four ways that you can create a course around your brand and your books. When you create a course around your book, you provide your audience with a different type of experience that goes beyond simply reading your book; and you actually create another stream of income because at this point, you are actively engaging with everyone who is a part of your book, i.e. the readers.
4 Strategies for Creating Courses with Your Books: Fiction & Non-Fiction
I realize that for new authors and writers, creating e-Courses is unconventional. It’s new. But it’s a growing phenomenon of which I highly encourage you to partake. It’s not very often that I make an assessment of what’s to come in terms of economic trends, but I will here: There will be a dramatic increase of authors and writers creating courses to showcase their expertise to others because in this day, knowledge is power; and power produces profit. And there will always be people who know less than you about a particular subject. For my fictional writers, now’s a good time to be thinking about how you can create works that others can use for learning purposes, not simply for entertainment. As a novice author, you have to recognize that while you may have a vision or dream for yourself and your works, in this industry, it may not turn out as you desire. As Jeff Goins, one of the experts in the Book-to-Course Summit alluded to, this is a game. There are specific rules. And those who play by the rules, even adding their own creativity, are the ones that are prospering. If you intend to make a significant living with your works, you must stop thinking just as a writer, and think more as an entrepreneur. Otherwise, you will be nothing more than a “starving writer.”
When I first began learning about creating courses based on my books, I knew this would be a viable option for me, especially because of my teaching background. But one of the challenges I encountered was how to convince people to sign up for every course that I wanted to offer. In truth, the methods that many of the experts use today were not the same ones that I wanted to implement because it did not feel authentic. For example, the current course creators within this content-creation industry rely heavily on developing an extensive email list. Many of them have tens of thousands of subscribers that they built over time. And from that list, they determine how many people they would need in order to enroll in their course so that they reached their financial goals. While this method worked for them, I found it less appealing to me and my brand. I don't want a giant list of subscribers, faceless emails that essentially have no real connection to me or the brand. I wanted to network with real people, to get to know each one and their story, and to develop a lasting professional relationship. I want clients that will come to my company for the rest of their publishing career, and the way that happens is by establishing a network where we get to know each other. I decided that yes, I would create courses, but they would be packaged in a way that authors, especially new ones, could have a lasting experience. Thus, I developed the Empowered Writerpreneurs Program Kits! In the same way, I created the Empowered Writerpreneurs Network, which goes far beyond simply spamming people with "buy this or buy that;" but one where a real tribe and community co-labor together to see each one prosper.
