Greetings to all!
It’s a wonderful time to be a writer and author, especially one that has a powerful, uplifting message to share with others.
My personal journey into self-publishing came at a time when I had lost everything. For many of us, it's hard to believe that "bad things happen to good people." But I like what Jesus said: "Why do you call Me good...No one is good except God alone" (Luke 18:19). Often times, as Believers, we have a tendency to forget that we live in a fallen state; that we will make mistakes; that troubles will hit us; that we will be falsely accused of matters of which we are innocent. Troubles will come, as Jesus promised. But we can be of good cheer because He has overcome the world.
Stories of triumph always fascinate me. To know that we can open the Great Book, look into the lives of people who believed God, and read their messages of how God brought them through it all. As I write, I am reminded of Joseph. After assuming his position as the second most powerful man in the civilized world, he and his wife bore a son and named him Manasseh, which in Hebrew means "causing to forget." He honored the Lord by giving his son this name as a memorial to God's great favor and love to Joseph. It was God's goodness that caused him to forget his troubles, his hurts, his wounds. It was God's goodness that broke bitterness and anger and resentment. It was God's goodness that caused him to forgive his brothers and forget their offenses. And as we know, this story was told and delivered to us by the prophet Moses.
Even during that time, you had writers and storytellers, individuals who learned how to pen the word for our us today. And this is what I love about the self-publishing industry, especially for Christian authors. We have a prime opportunity to share with others the great things that God does for us. And while not everyone will give their story in writing, you can! Your story has the ability to help someone else.
I pray that as you read this post, you find it to be a useful, valuable tool that helps you develop your authorship, increase your readership, and maintain your writerpreneurship. In this article, I want to highlight some important factors that you should know about the self-publishing industry. LiyahAmore Publishing specializes in working with clients who typically self-publish, and as an advocate of this industry, I thought it would be advantageous to discuss some of my reasons as to why self-publishing is the best choice for authors, especially new authors. I went this route myself, and continue to do so because it allows me the freedom and power to produce what I want, when I want. While it is a challenging route to take, it can become easier as you put everything into practice.
So, here is a list of seven other reasons why self-publishing is the best route for authors. I hope you enjoy!
The Power of Self-Publishing
I recently completed an editing project with a client who lives in Thailand. He is a veteran missionary for unreached areas in Asia, and his story fascinated me. When we first began consulting about his project, his first inclination was to compose a package that would help him acquire a contract with a traditional publisher. When he mentioned this, I wanted to tell him to self-publish, but I held back simply because I always want the clients to do what's best for them. Over the course of weeks, and as we continued working on the manuscript, he eventually decided to self-publish. In my opinion, this was the perfect choice. Why give your work over to a company that may not see the vision of your book the same way you do? Why limit yourself to what your books can be, because a traditional publisher will only want to take your projects if it knows that the content will sell to the masses? And I would speak the same message to you. Your story is unique. It has value to someone like you. You may not change the world with it, but you may change a few young women or a few young men who need you. Books are powerful tools that can bring light to others. In the same example of my missionary client, I had no idea about the stories of missionaries today, because American Churches don't preach or teach about them. In fact, when I hear the word "missionary," I think of someone who holds a title in the Church and simply works within the administrative portions of it. I personally had no idea that God still called people to the darkest, most remote places of the globe to spread the Gospel. My client's book illuminated this for me, and I can't wait to have his book in my collection of other authors--among other great men and women of faith.
