For today's post, I want to take a little detour from what I typically do with my blog articles. I want to share with you how you can assist your Pastor in building the local church by adding to it a writing ministry. And if you happen to be a Ministry Leader yourself, I think this post will help you understand the benefits of adding this element to your mission.
The more I learned about writerpreneurship, the more I realized that this was a powerful method to help churches expand their reach, build their influence, and generate more income to fuel their ministries.
There are so many Pastors today who are struggling to maintain the financial burden of running a local church; and many of them have abandoned their calling because the struggle was just too real.
Then there are other Pastors who feel stuck in their ministries. They have a wide vision, but the resources aren't there to make it happen. Some leaders desire to have their own buildings so they can create private schools, learning centers, and other ministries that will impact the community. But they lack the finances to make it a reality.
While volunteer giving is a major component of any ministry's growth (i.e. through tithes and offerings), not everyone in a church is fully committed to doing that.
This presents a huge problem, but it's nothing that we can't overcome.
In this article, I want to teach you how creating a writing ministry within your church's overall work can be an ongoing solution to this common problem of financial lack. In fact, I'm so confident of this that I began marketing this particular service to Ministry Leaders, helping each one to build their writing ministry. I will share more about it by the end of the post, so stay tuned!
For now, let's dive more into this topic, and start exploring how a writing ministry can impact a local church.
What Is A Writing Ministry Exactly?
Over the last year, I've started using this phrase, "writing ministry," quite heavily. Now it's emerging as a common term among my students and network members.
But if you happen to be new to my company, I want to take some time to share what I mean by having a writing ministry.
Think, for a moment, about the major businesses in operation today. You will notice that each one has separate departments that provide a specialty for operating the company. You will have the executive team, the marketing department, the personnel department, and so on. Each one is responsible for helping the entire business to grow, and if one element is missing, that business won't succeed.
This is the same idea with adding a writing ministry to a church. A writing ministry encompasses various elements that use the written word to help promote the Gospel and to expand a church's reputation in a community. More specifically, a writing ministry will:
In essence, a writing ministry within an overall ministry will help the Pastor to take his/her vision beyond the four walls of the church.
To give you a better idea of what an effective writing ministry looks like, examine LiyahAmore Publishing in details. You will notice that my home page invites visitors to sign up for my events; it also invites them to explore my website. Once inside my "home," visitors learn about my products and services. They have the option of reading my blog and listening to my podcast episodes. They can purchase my library of e-books and e-courses; they can explore more about my online network.
Your writing ministry can have this and more.
The most active page on my site is my blog, because this is where I go to provide ongoing communication with my audience. In fact, blogging is so powerful, that nowadays, you can earn substantial income from just using a blog as a powerful content marketing tool.
Blogging also assists in helping me to build relationships with readers like you. So, instead of coming to my site where you see a list of what I offer, I incorporate my blog as a way for you to get to know me and my writing ministry. Building online relationships is fundamental to anyone who wants to build a writing ministry; and my blog has truly helped me in accomplishing this goal.
And that's what a writing ministry looks like. It's about taking a medium and using it to push your mission forward.
So, now that you have that understanding, let me share with you the many benefits of adding a writing ministry to your church.
The Benefits of Launching a Writing Ministry
By now, you may have a general idea about the benefits of having a writing ministry; but I want to take some time to give you more.
1.) A writing ministry helps build your reputation.
As a Ministry Leader, it's important that the people you desire to minister to are able to find you. In the business world, we call this marketing and promoting. But if you're uncomfortable with using those terms within the Christian setting, then think of it as evangelizing. In fact, that term is now used by the world to help other people learn more about one's business and services.
Creating a writing ministry within your church (or developing one that will help your Pastor) is a great way to build your reputation as a certain type of leader. There are some Pastors who have a natural gift for ministering to a certain population. Some are gifted in working with women directly. Some are gifted in helping couples build a holy marriage. (My father's ministry is strong in this area.) Whatever element or nature that is indicative on your ministry, creating a writing department that highlights this feature is important. How else will people know what you do? Yes, word of mouth is the most effective method for increase, but what happens once the person has stopped talking? If you have a writing ministry, you could create the right pamphlets, articles, brochures, etc. that will be useful in leaving a lasting impression and building your reputation.
2.) A writing ministry helps increase your income.
If you take a look at my writing ministry, you will notice that I've created multiple opportunities to earn income. I have my services, my courses, my e-books, and my online network. I'm not focused just on book sales; instead, I want to provide great, quality options that will help each type of Christian Author excel in their ministry.
The benefit of adding a writing ministry is that you can have multiple ways of generating an income. Maybe you want to create a larger speaking platform. If so, having your books available for sale, in addition to your speaking fee, is another way to build income.
Or maybe your congregation wants to connect with each other throughout the week, but they don't have the ability to commute to service. You can create an online network that will give them your LIVE stream videos and other empowering resources for a standard monthly donation.
There are many ways that you can monetize your writing ministry, and that's what I help Pastors or Ministry Leaders accomplish.
3.) A writing ministry helps to propel your mission.
There are many Pastors whose vision extends beyond their community. Every ministry's mission is different. If you wanted to get your purpose out to more people, then creating a writing ministry is key.
For example, the more you create blog articles around the main messages and themes that your ministry addresses, this helps other people to become aware of your ministry's purpose. In business, we would call this employing content marketing.
It's incredibly powerful!
4.) A writing ministry helps increase your church's influence.
Not only will the writing ministry help you propel your mission, but it will also add to your credibility and influence. Nothing speaks more of authority than when a person writes a book on a particular topic.
Ministry Leaders who regularly produce content, whether it be articles or books, typically witness an increase in online and offline influence. It never fails.
While most Pastors are focused on providing sermon after sermon, there are many people inside the Church who learn best when they read information on a particular subject. Let's say that you want to help the men in your church, but you don't simply want to preach to them. You can create a great e-book and workbook that would focus on the topic that matters most to this audience. You can then offer it to them when they attend your men's conference.
For those in attendance, that content is enough to convince them of your credibility on the topic. It suggests that you've taken the time to learn the subject; that you've taken the time to apply the lessons; and that you are now prepared to invest in others what you have acquired.
5.) Finally, a writing ministry helps to keep your ministry alive and active, online and offline.
If you're struggling to gain momentum in your ministry, it's most likely because no one knows about it. It doesn't mean that your church will fail. It just means that you need to spring some life into it, because people love new stuff.
By building a writing ministry within your overall church, you can do just that. You can keep an audience engaged with your work each time you publish something new.
This means if you wanted to build an e-book and e-course around one of your sermons, you can do that, and you can keep your people interested in everything. It's just human nature to want to grow and increase, and the more opportunities you do that, the more your audience will help your overall ministry stay alive.
These are simply a few benefits, and there are plenty more that you will discover as you work on adding this writing ministry to your overall work.
