Bless the Lord, Christian Author!
Welcome to another Empowering Post, where I share with you powerful lessons that will help you build and launch your writing ministry.
I'm Felecia Killings, the Founder of LiyahAmore Publishing, and it's been my mission since 2011 to provide quality training resources and support to new Christian Authors entering the independent publishing arena.
Over the last few days, I've been teaching you and my other audience members about becoming more productive within their ministries.
Because of all that goes into cultivating a dynamic work, it's easy to become discouraged when you don't see the immediate results that you desire.
I know this from first-hand experience.
And when that feeling of frustration overtakes you, it can cause you to be less productive with your work.
So, in my desire to continue empowering you, I wanted to construct a series of lessons that focus on how to overcome these mental challenges so that you are only doing things in your writing ministry that will work.
And for today's topic, I want to talk about persistence and how you can cultivate this mental attitude if you lack in this area.
More specifically, today's post will teach you:
So, grab your notepad and pen, and come spend some time with me in today's Empowering Post.
Persistence Is A Mental Attitude That Only The Strong Possess
Let's begin today's teaching with a working definition of persistence:
Persistence is "the sustained effort necessary to induce faith...[it] is an essential factor in the procedure of transmuting desire into its [chosen] equivalent. The basis of persistence is the power of will.
Will power and desire, when properly combined, make an irresistible pair. Men who accumulate great fortunes are generally known as cold-blooded, and sometimes ruthless. Often they are misunderstood. What they have is will power, which they mix with persistence, and place back of their desires to insure the attainment of their objectives" (Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich).
As I tend to do with all the lessons that I provide to my audience and students, I readily reference Napoleon Hill because of his extensive research on understanding what it takes to succeed in any venture.
His analysis on the effects of persistence has helped shaped my own understanding of why certain online entrepreneurs and Ministry Leaders thrive in their works.
You will often hear me say that your writing ministry will not emerge based on luck or chance.
It will manifest as the result of you putting forth the right efforts.
No matter how great your vision is or how many people prophesy over your ministry, if you do nothing physically with that intangible word, you will not generate results.
In fact, this is the general nature of most of mankind.
I strongly believe that every person has a dream or vision.
Every person has a purpose.
But only a few discover that purpose.
And even fewer actually manifest what they envision, not because luck was on their side, but because those individuals took great care to implement God's natural laws that lead to success.
One of those laws consists of possessing a persistent spirit, an attitude that suggests, "No matter what comes my way, I will not let this desire die."
Hill adds to this belief when he wrote, "Those who have cultivated the habit of persistence seem to enjoy insurance against failure."
Let that last statement settle with you for a moment.
If you want to create a writing ministry in which you are guaranteed not to fail, the answer resides in your ability to be persistent.
Hill goes on to write,
"No matter how many times they are defeated, they finally arrive up towards the top of the ladder...Those who pick themselves up after defeat and keep on trying, arrive...The hidden Guide lets no one enjoy great achievement without passing the persistence test. Those who can't take it, simply do not make the grade. Those who can 'take it' are bountifully rewarded for their persistence. They receive, as their compensation, whatever goal they are pursuing." (Think and Grow Rich)
Here's another way to see this: The Lord has treasures and opportunities waiting for those who have learned to fight through the hardships victoriously.
Whatever it is that they desire or whatever it is that they pursue.
Christ endured the cross and despised the shame because there was a joy set before Him.
He didn't abandon His calling or assignment because people spoke evil about Him.
No, He fought through it by completely submitting to the will of God.
And the result: God subjected everything under Jesus' feet.
God gave Him the name that is above every name.
The same principle can be applied to you and me.
When we are so fixed on our vision and mission, if we remain persistent through the difficulties, then we will obtain the goals that we long for.
From this working definition, we can see why being persistent is a powerful tool that will help you maintain productivity within your writing ministry.
A Persistent Spirit Is Birthed In You The Same Way that Patience Comes: Through Hardships
If you haven't realized it yet, God has His way of birthing something out of us that will often require pain.
As great as the vision is...
As wonderful as this spiritual baby may be...
The only way to bring it forth will require labor pains.
I remember this one time, I had been experiencing a surge of great success within my writing ministry.
The Lord had connected me with new Christian Authors in my city.
And I felt like I was walking in this new life that could bring forth immeasurable success.
In my desire to help Christian Authors launch their writing ministries, I began to host different workshops where I would train women to not only share their stories but to engage in spiritual warfare so that they could help set others free.
You see, my calling to train God's writers does not end with me providing technical support to writers.
I'm also one of God's many prophets, and my particular calling is to expound upon the Word of God so that other women are fully equipped for the work of ministry (this is according to Ephesians 4).
And it's not uncommon for my workshops to begin as a writing session but soon transform into a prayer and deliverance meeting.
Now, if you are at all familiar with deliverance, then you know that when praying for others--especially women--you are combating forces of darkness that wish to keep people bound.
The anointing on my life breaks the bondage to help set the women free.
And once they are free, I then armor them to become a leader to the women that they will minister to through their stories.
This is the mark of my overall ministry and calling, which I teach extensively over on my other website.
Now, whenever you are dealing with the kingdom of darkness--and as you grow in your writing ministry, you will engage in spiritual warfare--you will be attacked.
It's the enemy's tactic.
He doesn't want to relinquish his territory so easily.
And one of the ways that he attacks me is by hitting me financially.
He does this in different ways, but particularly by deceiving people into believing something negatively about me.
Again, this is just one of his tactics.
And his wares have proven effective in stifling my voice and my ministry in the past.
At one time, I gave up on my purpose. I abandoned my call as best as I could. I become a recluse and started hating God's people.
It took a lot of healing and months of counseling with the Holy Spirit to get me back on my feet.
And that healing resulted in the person I am today.
But while I have grown stronger spiritually, the enemy has not changed his tactics against me.
And because I continue to empower women and to help them experience deliverance, it's not uncommon for my ministry to take a hit.
I've experienced this recently, and for a moment, I thought about quitting my mission again.
I mean...why deal with this mess when I can do so many other things?
But it's at times like these that I remember the mission, the call, and the promise.
I reflect on the vision, and I am consumed with the burning desire to see revival and reformation in our nation.
I am so confident and convinced in empowering God's people--particularly His writers--so that they also engage in this great work.
And because of that, no matter how many times I am confronted with temporary defeat, I refuse to give up.
You see, Dear Writerpreneur, my persistent spirit did not emerge because things have always been going well.
I'm resilient because life has hit me so hard but I just can't seem to completely give up.
There's a strength inside of me that is divine.
It's the Lord's strength, and it is coupled with my burning passion to see what I envision for my life and for God's people.
It's this mental attitude that I have that helps me to remain focused.
And do you know what happens when I maintain this persistent attitude?
I will tell you.
New ideas and new lessons and new opportunities come to the forefront.
All of a sudden, that temporary defeat has produced a seed of blessing, which if I plant it well, will grow into a large harvest.
It never fails!
Every obstacle has produced an equivalent degree of success for me, because I refuse to let this vision die.
And I want to encourage to see the same thing with your writing ministry.
You must be persistent if you want to experience success.
But understand that you won't know how persistent you are until you meet with temporary defeat.
And how you handle that defeat will determine your character and whether or not you are able to handle your next level.
That's really the kind of training that God is taking you through.
He wants you to see that yes, with Him, you can handle anything.
You can handle that rejection.
You can handle that cancelled contract.
You can handle the lies and rumors.
Why? Because He has equipped you to do it.
And as you experience victory over each obstacle, the Lord rewards you with great things.
He opens new doors of opportunities.
He places you before kings and rulers.
And He gives you a dynamic platform that you could never imagine.
That's how God works, and those of us who understand the ways of the Lord find ourselves overwhelmed with His goodness.
So, as you encounter a new trial within your writing ministry, don't despise the hardships.
Let them produce in you godly character that will break you forth into your next level.
Persistence Makes You Productive
After I was hit with another attack, I sought the Lord concerning my next steps.
And that's when He brought me back to His original desire for me and my overall ministry.
His reassurance to me was this: "I am with you. And I've given you favor to accomplish what I desire."
God's Word added to my desire to see my ministry flourish, and because of that, I woke up the next morning, ready to continue in this great work.
I didn't allow that defeat to stop me from doing the tasks that I needed to move forward--something that the enemy hates.
I didn't give into fear or intimidation.
I made the conscious decision to maintain productivity within my writing ministry, because I'm after results.
I want you to see how you can apply this same principle to your ministry.
Having a persistent spirit is something that comes from above.
And when you make it a part of your nature, you will discover that all things are possible to you, because you have the faith and the gumption to see your vision come to pass.
So, I pray that today's lesson really blessed you.
I know that I felt empowered just sharing that with you.
