Greetings, Christian Writerpreneur!
Welcome to another Empowering Post, where I teach you impactful lessons that will transform your writing ministry.
I'm Felecia Killings, Founder of LiyahAmore Publishing and FKMinistries, and I've been working with Christian Authors since 2011. I believe that God has strategically anointed certain Believers with the ability to write, and their purpose is to record the messages of God for the world to read.
As with anything that God places in the world, He expects His people to be good stewards over the talents that are provided.
And I've been commissioned to help you perfect this area of ministry so that you function in your calling in a spirit of excellence.
I have several FREE teachings that dive into this topic of business management, which I invite you to read today.
And I provide enhanced training to my students, which you will have time to learn about very soon.
For today's teaching, I want to help you develop a strategy for building your writing ministry while still working for another company.
Not every writerpreneur is able to commit to their ministry full-time at the beginning, but it doesn't mean that one's ministry has to sit on the sidelines.
So, I want to share some tips with you today, because the only way that your writing ministry will grow is when you are ready to sacrifice some things to make it happen.
Without further delay, let's get into this lesson on "How to Build Your Writing Ministry While Working Another Job."
Building Your Writing Ministry Requires Certain Behavioral Shifts
Quite often, when I am introduced to a new Christian Author, she will tell me that she has numerous ideas for writing a book. And she believes that this is something that can be completed easily.
She will tell me that her book will sell to hundreds and thousands of people.
All she needs to know is how to write the book and put it up on Amazon.
You can imagine the kind of shock she (and others like her) received when I told her that there are at least 100 steps that she must take in order to have a thriving a writing ministry.
With all that is required to build your new ministry, aka your online business, you must understand that everything truly begins in your mind.
The thoughts you have, the plans you develop, and the products you eventually create will have their start within your mind.
Therefore, you must learn to condition your mind to be ready to work on your behalf.
You see, it's not enough that you receive an idea from God to build your writing ministry.
You also need to put in the work that will enable you to see that idea physically manifested.
For example, if you have a book to write, you can't expect anyone to purchase it until you actually write it. And then you can't expect people to purchase your book if you don't market it. And you can't expect anyone to purchase your product if you don't know HOW to market your work.
And until you condition your mind to do what's needed in order to get results, then your writing ministry will fail.
In other words, there are certain behaviors that you must adopt if you want your writing ministry to succeed. And here's just a small list of what I mean.
If you want your writing ministry to thrive, you must learn how to practice:
And the way that you will learn about these powerful traits is when you start creating new habits that will put your mind in a productive rhythm.
Productive rhythm is the motion that your mind assumes when certain actions are repeated over time.
For example, if you condition your mind through repeated discipline to wake your body up at 5:00am every morning, at some point, you will develop that productive rhythm. It will become a natural occurrence to you, and will automatically happen each day.
What makes this rhythm productive is what you do with that time. So, if you decide to use one hour in the morning to work on your writing ministry, because you have made this a part of your life's rhythm, you will find yourself being productive in your work.
The key in building your writing ministry while working for another company is to establish creative and productive habits that move you towards your ultimate goal.
Building Your Writing Ministry Requires Time-Management Skills
There are several steps that you can take towards building your writing ministry. This is what I teach extensively in my school.
But no strategy is more important than time-management.
How you treat your time each day is a strong indicator of where your heart truly is.
Although you might have to give 8 hours a day to another company just to live, you still have the choice to decide what to do with the remaining 16 hours.
For most people, they want to use that time doing leisure activties. They want to relax or mingle rather than using some of that time to work on their writing ministries.
They sit back and wait for "the right time" to start their book or to market their product; and then they wonder why God isn't doing His part to "bless them."
About 98% of today's new Christian Authors fail to realize their goals because they don't use their time effectively, yet they expect time to bring them a large harvest.
As with all businesses, there are laws in place that govern success. These laws can be used by anyone, and they contain the power to make one rich and prosperous.
But these same laws can be used to usher in failure.
By making permanent the dominating thoughts and behaviors that control people.
Here's an example of what I mean:
If Author Jim wants to publish a book and earn $10,000 from his product's first year sales, but he constantly thinks negatively about it, he will not reach his goals. His negative ideas of the publishing process will prevent him from doing anything that will help him reach his goals.
In this case, the law of sowing and reaping is at play. Author Jim refuses to sow into his writing ministry, in spite of having an idea to launch it. He doesn't purchase his training. He doesn't market his book. He just sits there with an idea and no action.
As a result, because he has sown nothing, he reaps nothing. In the end, the failure of his writing ministry is on him, not on the Lord and not on anyone else.
To the contrary, if Author Phillip decides to write a book, and he puts into practice what's needed to thrive, he will succeed. Phillip has learned the law of sowing and reaping, and he applies it to his ministry each day.
Although Author Phillip may be tired from working his traditional job, he doesn't let that fatigue stop him from spending 2 extra hours each day on working on his ministry. He doesn't allow procrastination and indeciveness stop him from purchasing the training materials and coaching that he needs to grow.
And after a year of working this way and sowing into his work, he finds that not only has he finished his first book, but he has learned how to generate a part-time income that's large enough to help him quit his traditional job.
In this case, Phillip has learned to master himself, and he has used this skill to manage his time wisely.
I want you to think about how you can do the same thing.
Building Your Writing Ministry Requires Training
Whether you are able to work on your writing ministry one hour a day or 8 hours a day, understand that nothing good will come of it unless you have the right resources to guide you.
I like the way Napoleon Hill addresses this topic in his book, Think and Grow Rich.
He shares that it's the power of the masterminds that enable each person to thrive.
No man can hope to succeed without the aid or service of others.
It requires collective work to help bring ideas into physical manifestations.
It's the knowledge and wisdom that others have acquired that make us capable of turning our visions into reality.
And while we may never be able to speak with the great minds of business moguls from today, we can read their teachings and learn from their wisdom.
This is the essence of training.
As I took time to build my writing ministry the right way, I learned that in order to thrive, I had to listen to other entrepreneurs. I had to see how they generated success in online business. And their teachings helped to form my own imaginary mastermind group. (Hill talks about this, too, in his book.)
Their expertise became my training materials; and when I applied their lessons, I witnessed great results.
This is why my writing ministry stresses the importance of gaining the RIGHT training for your work, Dear Writerpreneur.
Yes, you can try to do everything on your own.
But you will eventually fail, and will fail at the wrong things.
In other words, you will find yourself making costly mistakes that you could have easily avoided had you received the right training for your ministry.
This is something that the Holy Spirit and I built together, and I've put all that you need within my school, the Empowered Writerpreneurs Program.
And because I continue to learn so much more about building a writing ministry that will last, I am always improving upon the quality of the education each year.
If you are working for another company, but you still want to build your writing ministry, then one of the first strategies you must employ is to receive your training.
Remember how I said that you can devote an hour a day to your work? Well, that hour can be spent on your training. And once you have learned the principles that are taught, you can then start applying them to your business.
This is how your writing ministry will grow over time.
There's a process to this work. But once you master the skills and start to evaluate your success, you will soon discover that your ministry is expanding more and more each year.
So, I pray that this article helped to put things in perspective for you. Always remember that your success is dependent on what you do and how much time you are willing to commit to your calling.
I bless you, Dear Writerpreneur.
And as always, let's grow together!
