Greetings to all!
And welcome to the third lesson from this Blog Series. If you are just joining us, please take a look at Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 today so that you can follow along with us. Just to briefly recap, a few weeks ago, I attended a virtual summit called “Book to Course,” which was designed to give authors an opportunity to learn how they can earn a great living using their craft. And as I mentioned in Lesson 1, I thought that much of the information they provided, while limited, was actually wonderful and empowering; and I wanted to share this with my tribe of #LAPWriterpreneurs. And for this blog post, I want to give you 2 out of 5 ways that you can transform your books into opportunities for teaching and speaking, another avenue that will help you generate wealth as a writerpreneur.
So, let’s get straight to it!
In Lesson 2, I gave a brief discussion on why you should stop focusing exclusively on book sales and open your mind to the possibilities of using your books to help you gain wealth through other means. And speaking and teaching engagements are one of those options that should be in the forefront of your marketing plan.
As with any successful author, creating multiple streams of income will be a major part of one’s business plan. Becoming an author is so much more than simply writing a book and publishing it. You must also consider creative measures that will help you become a full-time author consistently every year. People will not simply give you their money every time you write a book unless what you have to offer is of great value to them. This also applies to fictional authors. Readers want to be entertained or empowered by your works, so you must always think of ways to keep them interested.
One of the things that I found to be intriguing in one of the expert’s discussion was that he did not see how a fictional author could become exceptionally successful unless she focused exclusively on selling books. And for the fictional authors in the virtual community, this was disturbing news. In considering this myself, I came up with one solution for fictional writers, which I will discuss in details through the first e-Course (there’s still time to join!). And of this solution, one of the ways that a fictional (and non-fictional) writer can bring success to his or her career is by becoming a speaker and teacher.
So, here are the two ways that you can transform your book into speaking and teaching engagements:
