By now, you have at least read through four of the 26 lessons that I gathered from attending the Book- to-Course Summit earlier in May. And hopefully you are not only feeling inspired, but more importantly encouraged to act upon the suggestions that I presented in the articles.
For today’s post, I want to show you how you can maximize your book’s potential by doing something unconventional: selling courses that relate to your book’s content. This is actually something that I believe could truly benefit not only non-fictional writers, but especially fictional authors.
Without question, this very topic was at the heart of virtual summit, especially because Teachable® is a e-course platform that allows anyone to create classes to teach others about a subject. Ideally, those who use this platform, which I will also use for my upcoming courses, are those who generally do not write fictional narratives. In fact, as I partook of this summit, I had hope that they would discuss some strategies that would help this segment of writers also succeed by using this platform. But they didn’t, and this is one of the few flaws that I witnessed from the summit.
Fortunately, for my tribe of #LAPWriterpreneurs, if you are a fiction writer, I’ve developed some strategies to get you thinking about engaging your audience and readers in a more in-depth manner by creating Author’s Book Courses. This, of course, will lead to more book sales and other opportunities, if you are willing to put in the work and to think outside of the box.
For the sake of this post, I will give two of the seven ways that both fiction and non-fiction authors can increase their book’s financial potential. When you create a course around your book, you provide your audience with a different type of experience that goes beyond simply reading your book; and you actually create another stream of income because at this point, you are actively engaging with everyone who is a part of your book, i.e. the readers. While this blog post won’t cover the steps to create the course (I will do that in my e-Course), it will give you a couple of ideas in terms of what an e-Course can look like for you and your work. So, let’s get to it.
I realize that for new authors and writers, creating e-Courses is unconventional. It’s new. But it’s a growing phenomenon of which I highly encourage you to partake. It’s not very often that I make an assessment of what’s to come in terms of economic trends, but I will here: There will be a dramatic increase of authors and writers creating courses to showcase their expertise to others because in this day, knowledge is power; and power produces profit. And there will always be people who know less than you about a particular subject. For my fictional writers, now’s a good time to be thinking about how you can create works that others can use for learning purposes, not simply for entertainment.
Again, I realize that this is new and different. But I guarantee that it will happen.
