Greetings, Dear Writerpreneur,
I pray that you are well.
I want to welcome you to another Empowering Post.
Today's lesson deals with an essential element of every Christian Author's business. The topic focuses on branding, and why it's important to establish this as a self-publishing author.
Here's something that I want you to keep in mind as you read today's post (and even my other articles). Each article provides a lesson in why you need to do what my teachings suggests. In other words, I will always provide you the understanding for a particular strategy so that you know how to discern what will work best for your authorship.
When it comes to learning how to implement these strategies, this is where my program comes into play. This is just food for thought as you engage with the rest of today's post.
Before I begin this lesson, let me tell you a story.
I had a client who was new to the independent publishing industry. She had an idea to write a book that everyone would want to purchase. Her dream was so broad, and her message so open that if she could, she would continue writing the same book for years to come.
She had no clear point of direction, and her brand was almost non-existent. When I told her that she needed to do away with the idea of “writing for all,” she was a bit thrown off. I told her, in our very brief editorial sessions, that great writers are the ones who can develop a successful brand around their works, one that would mark their products as extraordinary.
This is the same message that I want you to receive. In order for you to break ground in a crowded industry, you must be different. Your message, while it may be similar to another writer, it must be told in a way that differentiates itself from the rest.
Let's dive more into this topic, and you will see what I mean.
What Does Branding Mean?
This is a question that all new entrepreneurs encounter.
Branding is not simply a logo or a color scheme for your business.
Branding is a reputation. A name. A value that your writerpreneurship entails. Allow me to explain.
You might be familiar with the phrase, "professional branding." It involves the core values, principles, or truths behind an organization, product, or service.
Everything within that brand embodies purpose, vision, and a mission.
A brand strategy involves marketing techniques that help a system stand out from the crowd. It’s a phrase, a color scheme, a theme that tells others what that business entails.
It’s a signal, alerting people of what they can expect to receive when they come to that business.
In like manner, every successful author has established a type of brand for his work, one that differentiates him from others. And among secular authors, they have mastered this to the point that by simply saying their name, you are instantly connected with their brand (i.e. J.K. Rowland).
Consider my publishing company. When authors (and others outside this industry) see the name (LiyahAmore Publishing), they know that it’s associated with Christian Authors and the self-publishing industry. They also know that the brand embeds elements of teaching writers how to generate wealth using their craft.
My brand’s visual representations allude to the values of professionalism and business-mindedness. Every image reflects the company's logo (my face). Even when I post articles to Pinterest, because my branding images, i.e. my picture and the company’s logo, are included on the images, viewers recognize who is the source of the content.
Everything that I create within the company (my public blog, my members-only blog and vlog, my online school, my network, my e-books) reflects my brand or the core values of my business.
This is how I differentiated my company from others; and since improving upon this branding strategy since March 2016, I have seen continual growth in my network as well as my social media engagement.
You will not find another self-publishing company like mine, even though there are plenty of Christian writing coaches in the independent industry.
But what about you as a new and aspiring Christian Author? How do you make your mark in an industry that seems to be repetitive and similar? How do you find your brand's voice so that others want to buy your books and other products?
The answer is simple: You can set yourself a part from other Christian Authors when you understand the importance of establishing your brand.
In the next section, I will share with you three different types of authors who I have worked with over the years. Their experiences, although founded upon the same faith, are vastly different; and each one had a unique opportunity to build a successful authorship around their brand.
As you read about their stories, I want you to begin thinking about how your own works will become unique in this field of Christian independent publishing.
Christian Authors Who Succeeded (or Failed) at Branding
Take a look at three different authors who had vastly different messages. Consider how they may or may not have cultivated a professional brand as a Christian Author.
Get Serious. Get Focused. Get Branded.
I want to highlight here that one of the most effective ways to build your brand is to have a clear focus on your target audience and the message you want to convey to it.
Don’t think that your books have to minister to every person. This actually confuses most readers, and dilutes your ability to become an expert on a given topic.
You want to narrow your niche as much as possible, and cater your brand to those people. I’ll use my own example to further illustrate this point.
When I first began my company in 2011, I tried to edit whatever manuscript came into my hands. After all, I simply wanted to make money.
But I found that I was better-suited to work with Christian Authors specifically, because they needed assistance in making their works a success.
Based on understanding my target market, I shaped my brand to reflect who I wanted to serve. I created my website that alluded to my company’s biblical foundation and principles. And because I wanted visitors to take my company more seriously, I used professional images and colors to represent my brand. (You can do some research on colors and how they “speak” to others about the type of author, business person, brand you are.)
Over the years, I honed my niche even more by specifically teaching Christian Authors like you how to generate wealth using their craft so that they could fulfill the mission of God.
I want to be that go-to expert in this area because I know that Christian Authors need this type of training, which is very hard to find. And as I mentioned earlier, there will never be a company like mine because you cannot replicate a personality.
Just as we each have our own fingerprint, even so our brands should have their own mark (or "print").
So, get serious about your authorship. Get focused on your target audience. And get branded.
Now It's Your Turn to Share
Branding can be as complicated or simple as you make it. One thing is for sure: It is necessary to your survival and success as a Christian Author.

It took me months to realize that everything I did as a writerpreneur was ineffective. I want to help you in this area, too, and here's how.

Step 2: Get Trained
The majority of new and aspiring Christian Authors assume that because God gave them the vision to write a book, then it's up to God to put everything together. They fail to realize that the success of their ministry is based on their training.
There are five pillars that Christian Authors generally lack:
