I simply could not have made great strides in my business without these methods; and in this article, I'm going to share with you why the new method continues to work for new and aspiring Christian Authors.

Chapter 3 Introduction
In this chapter, we will look at the difference between the old and new method of building your Author Platform.
More than likely, you are familiar with a traditional method for promoting your books.
With the traditional model, you might believe that all you have to do is write a book, share it on social media, and then watch the money come in.
That method may have worked more easily a few years ago, but it doesn’t today. In fact, so many authors are doing this right now that it’s almost embarrassing to watch.
I don’t want you succumbing to that same behavior. So, it’s important that you begin to accept the fact that in order to thrive as a Christian Author, you must adopt the newer, more effective Author Platform model.
During the video presentation, I will give you a comparative analysis of the results I have received simply by adopting this newer model. I will even share with you testimonies from other people (including Believers) who used the newer model to generate tens of thousands of dollars each year (and month) using this better platform method.
It’s going to inspire you! So, let’s get straight into this teaching.
What is the difference between the old and new versions of an Author Platform, and which one should today’s new Christian Authors choose?
In the previous chapter, I briefly shared with you what were the old forms of building an Author Platform.
You also learned that there is a significant difference between a great platform and a mediocre one. And if you’re honest with yourself about your current Author Platform, you will discover that yours reflects what most Christian Authors do.
This chapter will challenge you to think differently and to do differently. But before I can get you to move in this new direction, I want to educate you about the traditional way of building your platform and the newer, more-effective approach.
I want you to begin thinking about this new model in the same way that God thinks about His church. Building an Author Platform that works will require that you take your time. You must be patient and diligent. You must commit to it in the same way that the Lord commits to perfecting the Bride.
This ministry of yours is a branch of God’s Kingdom in the earth. And you have to manage it well. And my job is to inspire and motivate you to do things the right way so that you generate the kind of results that you envision.
So, to begin this chapter, let’s explore many of the elements of the traditional method of building an Author Platform.
How Authors of the Past Built Their Author Platforms
Quite often, you will hear about new writers in search of finding a publisher to promote their products. This is the old model of writing and publishing books.
According to Forbes, the “old model of the author platform was the writer’s public visibility and reputation that the publisher’s publicity department used to promote and sell the book” (source). In other words, one’s ability to sell many books depended exclusively on the publishers to promote it.
This is why it has always been a challenge for new writers to secure publishing contracts: Because publishers needed to know that if they invested in one’s work, then they would surely see a great return on their investment.
This model placed a great deal of pressure on the new writer, because she would need to have some type of notoriety that would guarantee future book sales. Acquisition editors—those who work directly with traditional publishers to find stellar authors—would be thrilled to work with someone who possessed a great deal of popularity. Why? Because any book that writer constructed would mean a big win for that publisher.
Here’s how this type of scenario could play out:
Let’s say that someone wrote a book and sold it to a few people within her sphere of influence. Word about that book spread, and pretty soon, local book stores wanted copies of the text. Pretty soon, media catch wind of it, and now this author has a local and national presence.
Because of her notoriety, traditional publishers come knocking at her door, asking to sign her up with future book contracts. They don’t come to her because she writes book. Instead, they come to her because she is a future gold mine. Anything that she publishes will sell, because she has already established herself as a writer that readers love.
Now, this is the kind of image that most new Christian Authors envision for their ministry. They know that God has given them a great idea for a book; and because it’s the Lord’s work, they make the assumption that their authorship will naturally take off.
But something like that is so rare that you can hardly call it an effective strategy.
Surely, there has to be a better way.
I remember when I wrote and published my book, I started doing what I witness other writers do. Social media had become a primary method for marketing one’s books; and it seemed like the easiest, cheapest thing to do as a new Christian Author.
So, I did what most writers do today, and shared a picture of my book within Christian Authors’ groups on Facebook.
I did this every day, sometimes 3-4 times a day.
I faithfully committed to this frivolous act, only to be disappointed with the results.
No one purchased my book this way. No one cared that I had written this book that nearly changed my life.
No. One. Cared.
And it was very easy to give up on my efforts simply because I could not see real results.
After speaking with my birth mother about this, she informed me about the need to market my works more effectively. She signed me up for blog talk radio shows. She asked other bloggers to interview me for their websites. And that’s when I began to see some change…not much, but some.
What I realized was that if I really wanted to make Christian authorship my new career, then I had to invest in it, time- and money-wise. There was absolutely no way to cheat this system, and you must accept this as well.
Now, while the information that my birth mother provided set me on the right track, it wasn’t enough to generate a great income. There was more that I needed to do, and that’s when I set out to discover these answers.
In 2015, I came across new writers and bloggers, who started sharing their testimonies of how they generated great income through their platforms. And they were doing this consistently.
Within just a few years, they went from earning nothing to becoming multi-millionaires, using the written word as their weapon of choice. And I will share some of their stories in the video presentation.
They started adopting new methods of marketing their works, whether they were books, courses, or personal services. They started talking about building online relationships with readers and consumers, even before asking someone to purchase something from them. They started talking about something so unconventional and revolutionary; and they had the financial resources to back up their ideas. It was remarkable.
And the authors who paid attention to the new ideas and lessons were the authors who began to thrive, whether they had the backing of a traditional publisher or not. It didn’t matter, because they had built a platform that commanded respect and generate substantial income.
How Successful Authors Are Building Their Platforms Today, as told by Forbes.
Today’s authors are giving their audiences their unique personalities.
These writers have learned about the power of an online presence. They are constructing websites that are engaging, beautifully-designed, and empowering. They are creating experiences that addicted readers cannot get enough of. And they are creating consistent content that invites readers to be a part of the process. It’s all about the author making powerful connections with readers, and not relying on any publisher to do this work for them. And as a result, readers come to enjoy their works, longing to support their efforts in any way possible.
Today’s authors are keeping it real with their audiences.
These writers aren’t trying to impress anyone. They are showing their true colors, and giving readers a chance to relate to influencers just like them. Think about your favorite writer, speaker, or influencer. What is it about them that you love? Do you listen to people who lie to you? Do you follow someone who is hypocritical all the time? Or do you find yourself following someone who is authentic and real? That’s how your readers will come to love your work. And there are ways that you can display this such as building a great blog, creating an engaging social media forum, or building a wonderful YouTube channel. With today’s innovation, there’s so much that you can accomplish with your platform, and your readers will naturally want to keep up with your work.
Today’s authors are sharing their expert knowledge throughout the world, even before asking for a sale.
This might seem like a major challenge for you, especially because you want to be paid for your work. But today’s successful authors aren’t worried about temporary successes. They want long-term results; and that means giving their audiences some of their best work for free.
Perhaps they will share a chapter for free. Or maybe they will host a free webinar that focuses on their book. Whatever their method, they are bringing their audience together, through their Author Platform, with hopes of converting these readers into buyers. In other words, they are proving their worth to their readers so that their readers come to trust their products.
