Greetings, Dear Writerpreneur,
I pray that you are well.
Welcome to another Empowering Post, where I teach you valuable lessons that will impact your Christian authorship.
For today's article, you will learn why creating a business model for your authorship will be one of the best decisions you make. For me, using e-learning and course creation was the model for me. It played into my strengths, and also gave me the kind of freedom and financial breakthrough that I wanted with my company.
While I love freelance writing and I adore coaching my clients independently, this aspect of the business is time-consuming. And my business's growth would be hindered by the number of clients that I could handle in one day.
For me, I wanted to scale my business so that it would turn into a multi-million dollar company, and I could only accomplish that in so many ways as a freelancer. I needed something else that could give me the results I was after, and I found this solution in creating my online program.
And that's what I want to share with you in this article. If you have a desire to build a ministry that helps you generate a full-time income, then creating a business model is what needs to take place. What that business model looks like for you will depend on your goals and vision.
Let's get into this teaching.
Developing a Business Model for Your Christian Authorship
As I tend to do with my articles, I want to begin my content by teaching you the meaning and application of certain entrepreneurial terms. This will help you to understand why certain business aspects are necessary for your writerpreneurship.
When discussing business models, this is what I mean: According to Google, a business model is a "design for the successful operation of a business, identifying revenue sources, customer base, products, and details of financing." Another definition can be found at investopedia.com: "A business model is the way in which a company generates revenue and makes a profit from company operations."
A simpler way to understand a business model is to consider what product or service you will use that will help you earn an income.
Now, why would this be important for your authorship? Simply put: You're not simply a writer anymore. You're a writerpreneur, and that means that you are creating a business that will last a lifetime. You are building a career that no one can take from you.
And as such, you need to create a type of business model that will work for you and your authorship. Do you want to make freelance work a part of your authorship? Do you want to make retail a part of your business model? Do you want to sell your coaching services as a business model? What method will you use that will help your company generate revenue?
For me, course creation was my business model of choice, and there are many reasons for it.
Firstly, I'm educator at heart. I always have been and always will be. Creating lessons and managing a group of students is what I'm good at. Empowering others is something that comes naturally to me, and I recognize that it's a skill that God has helped me cultivate. Therefore, adding a type of course to my business only seemed fitting for me. But there's more to this.
Secondly, the e-learning industry is vastly growing as a viable option for online entrepreneurs, especially solo ones. It is extremely challenging running a business by one's self, and to try and earn a significant living from it can be equally difficult. And this is why online learning is such a powerful tool for entrepreneurs.
You can read a number of articles that discuss the e-learning industry. And one of the most profound statistic is that this industry is a $107 billion one. Teaching is exceptionally profitable, and it's one of the best ways to display your expertise to a wider audience.
No matter what you desire to teach, you can do this and earn an income from it. I've come across blogs that have online courses that teach people how to write in cursive, a seemingly lost art in education.
I've seen courses that teach people how to travel in a foreign country. Anything can be taught as long as there are people willing to learn.
And for me, teaching Christian Authors like you how to build a thriving writing ministry was something that I knew the market needed.
Why Creating My Program was Best for Me
Now, I've already shared a little of why course creation was the business model for me. But another reason is that having my online program gave me the time I needed to do other things.
Homeschooling my daughter is important to me, and providing her with a tremendous educational experience requires a commitment from me that I cannot avoid. If I stuck to only performing freelance work, I wouldn't be able to give her the attention that she needs.
And having my online program has given me the opportunity to create a product that generates passive income. In other words, after I created the content and curriculum (which took me months to complete), I didn't have to re-create more content each day, which would require more time. And my program is something that I sell for years to come. It's an evergreen resource that will forever maintain its value to my customer base.
This is why I say adding my Program was the best decision I made as a writerpreneur. Now, I don't want you thinking that creating a course is simple. It isn't. It requires skills that go beyond simply having an idea, and I actually teach you how to create your own online course based on your brand when you enroll in my school.
So, if this is a business model that you want to implement, understand that it will require you to put forth some due diligence and temporary sacrifice. But it's worth it in the end.
Choose a Business Model That Works for You
When thinking about your own writing ministry, you must consider a business model that will work for you. If you attempt to copy someone's model simply because you see him or her succeeding, then you're missing the point.
Your business and brand must be exclusively yours. And even if you choose to use a similar model as another entrepreneur's, you still have to make it your own. Once you identify that business model, then it time to create a system that will help you generate the most revenue from that source.
So, choose wisely.
