Greetings, Christian Author!
Welcome to my newest blog series, Productivity Tips for Christian Authors.
These articles will help you understand how to use your time and resources more productively so that you build your writing ministry effectively.
If you are new to my blog and writing ministry, let me introduce myself.
My name is Felecia Killings, and I've been working with new Christian Authors since 2011.
I truly believe--as I tell my students, clients, and audience members often--that what you desire to do as a writer is crucial to the Body of Christ.
You are one of God's anointed writers, and you have the honor and privilege of using your talent to help empower others.
My responsibility is to train you on all the elements of writerpreneurship so that you learn what it takes to make your writing ministry thrive.
And no other topic could be of more importance than learning how to be productive.
In today's lesson, I want to go over what it means to be productive as a new Christian Author.
Quite often, we mistake busyness for productivity.
But just because you are busy doing multiple task, that doesn't mean that your tasks are generating results.
I want to help you discern between this.
So, grab your notepad and pen, and let's spend time with today's Empowering Post on "Why new Christian Authors must be productive if they want to succeed."
What does it mean to be productive?
Quite often, when we are beginning this journey of Christian authorship, we tend to do things that might seem like we are making headway, when in truth, we find ourselves spinning our wheels.
I remember when I published my first book in 2012, I made huge assumptions about the industry.
While I was successful in putting the book out there, I had no real plan to see it thrive.
While I was productive in terms of generating a few book sales, my writing ministry as a whole was going nowhere.
I made several mistakes going into the industry; and the only way to change things was by changing myself.
One thing that I had to learn was how to be more productive with my ministry, my time, and my resources.
I had to learn that if I wanted to thrive, then I needed to use my time and money to invest in proper training. I needed to learn more about publishing than just simply writing books.
And this is the same thing that all new Christian Authors must learn.
Being productive in any venture means that you are achieving great results with your work.
And when it comes to your writing ministry, great results will look like:
Productivity requires that you use your creativity to be inventive and life-changing.
Productivity means that everything you put your hands to do must prosper.
Why new Christian Authors lack in this area
There's a powerful scripture that teaches us to "be anxious for nothing" (Philippians 4:6-7).
Too often, when new Christian Authors decide that they will write a book, they become anxious about the process.
They want to rush everything, believing that if they take their time with their project, then they will miss out on precious dollars right now.
They jump into the publishing game without any support or training.
And then they find themselves drowning under the immense weight of all that needs to be accomplished.
When they realize that no one wants to purchase their books or no one takes any interest in it, they become frustrated.
You see, when you become anxious about your calling, you tend to make hasty decisions that lead to nowhere.
In essence, you have not yet learned to use your time wisely so that you generate the best results within a shorter timeframe.
Here's what I mean:
There are thousands of Christian Authors who struggle to build their writing ministry because they are unwilling to invest resources and time into their training.
They don't want to hire a coach or work within support systems because they aren't willing to purchase their education.
They want millionaire results for their ministry without paying the price that it takes to get those results.
Too often, they want something for nothing, and the laws of success prove that such expectations are faulty (you reap what you sow).
If a new Christian Author makes a decision today to write and publish a book--and, in essence, build a writing ministry from the ground up--the best way to achieve this goal is to first purchase one's education.
From there, the Christian Author can begin making productive plans of actions so that everything he does eventually prospers.
Again, and I want to emphasize this point as much as possible, productivity is based on actual results.
If the things you are doing today do not somehow lead you towards your goals, then you are not productive...you are simply busy.
